Danmei 4eva BJD Craft Competition
It’s time to put your craft skills to the test! Use your imagination and skill to hand-make something for your ball-jointed-doll (BJD) that speaks to this year’s SMASH! theme of “Nostalgia” for your chance to win a 1:4 scale blank Imomo Doll Miko, proudly brought to you by our sponsor Danmei 4eva “your personal shopping assistant”. Don’t have your own BJD yet? You can print out our handy size reference guide to help you keep your creation to scale.
Submissions close on the morning of 20th July, Saturday, when entries will be placed on display in the BJD x Danmei 4eva area. Be sure to drop by over convention weekend and see this exciting showcase of community creativity. We are so excited to see what you will share with us.

Judging Criteria
Submitted works will be judged on the following criteria:
- Overall Impression - visual distinctness as well as other aesthetic qualities. (use of colours etc.)
- Overall Quality - how well crafted the item is, taking full advantage of any materials to create a quality item.
Handcrafted Item Requirements
- Handcrafted items maximum size of 60cm long, 40cm wide and 40cm tall.
- Handcrafted items must be made for a 1:3 or 1:4 scale BJD. The reference for scale is here.
- Handcrafted items must be themed to “Nostalgia”
Submission Details
Pre-Convention
Complete the submission form by 5th of July 11:59pm 2024.
- Please name the file with your ‘ArtistName_ArtworkTitle’.
- Files should not exceed 5MB each.
- You are to submit four photos of your handcrafted item: one each from the front, rear, left and right against a plain white background.
- Please note that no doll is required for display in these photos.
- Preferred file formats are:
- .JPG, .PNG or .PDF
Notes to keep in mind during your art development:
- Please remember to submit work in progress photos as part of your submission.
- Once you have completed the form, you should receive a confirmation of submission in your email.
On the Day
On Convention Weekend bring your finished handcrafted item to the front desk from 10 AM on 19th July, Friday, or 20th July, Saturday before 9:30 AM. No entries will be accepted after 9:30 AM, Saturday.
Please note that all submissions must be displayed within the BJD area of SMASH! for the entire convention weekend until 21st July, Sunday, 5:00 PM.
Collection of handcrafted items will occur 5-6 PM on Sunday from the BJD area. If you are not able to do so, you must inform the competition organisers via email via bjd@smash.org.au within 7 days of the convention to arrange for collection from an alternative location.
