Trivia Coordinator (Front of House & Engagement)
The Trivia team is a close-knit team passionate about creating fun, challenging and interesting trivia events for the SMASH! convention. SMASH! Trivia events are Japanese pop culture themed, with a focus on anime, but also manga, games, music, and more.
As the Trivia Coordinator (Front of House & Engagement), you’ll help create the SMASH! Trivia experience. You’ll work closely with the Head of Trivia and Trivia Assistants to plan and manage Front of House activities, while also working with and guiding other Trivia staff. Your responsibilities cover developing an entry experience for attendee engagement, coordinating logistics, supervising and training crew, and supporting the team and trivia activities.
This position is a grate opportunity to be part of the energy of the convention while gaining experience in leading a team, and managing entry and front of house activities so everyone can enjoy the SMASH! Trivia experience.
Trivia Coordinator (Front of House & Engagement) supports the Head of Trivia with ensuring an engaging and organised Trivia Front of House operation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Researching trivia content for SMASH! events.
- Working with Trivia Assistants and the Head of Trivia to develop mini games.
- Organising the Trivia Front of House entry experience.
- Developing a Trivia Front of House ‘floor plan’
- Managing Front of House activities on the day including pre-event registrations and mini-games.
- Acting as Trivia attendee experience point of contact to provide information and support on the day (OTD).
- Coordinating crew training and guiding them throughout the SMASH! Weekend.
- Organising schedules.
- Compiling equipment needs and keeping track of equipment use OTD.
- Communicating with other departments to coordinate Front of House activity needs.
- Coordinating with the Trivia Coordinator (Stage Events).
- Taking on other tasks as needed.
We’re looking for someone who’s organised, communicates clearly, and loves engaging with people. Ideally, we’d love someone who enjoys trivia and feels comfortable guiding a team.

Required Skills & Knowledge, Experiences, Qualifications
- Interest in Japanese pop culture such as anime, manga, games and/or music.
- Available for the SMASH! Convention days in Sydney Australia.
- Can attend meetings, workshop and activities as required.
- Able to stay in regular contact online and by phone.
- Committed to completing assigned tasks and meeting required deadlines.
- Has trained others for a role or task.
- Confident with English spelling and grammar.
- manages time well and stays calm under pressure.
- Takes initiative and proactively resolves issues.
- Comfortable guiding and supporting other team members.
- Can work independently while following instructions from the Head of Trivia and/or Management.
Desirable:
- Has previous volunteer or customer service experience.
- Experienced in running small-scale events.
- Has supervised a group or team.
- Confident with public speaking.
