Script Writer

The SMASH! Production Department brings the stages to life, handling all the logistics and technical magic that make SMASH! stages unforgettable!

We make sure every stage runs smoothly and successfully, all while having fun, collaborating with a lively team, and chatting with people both inside and outside of SMASH!

As a Script Writer in the Production Department, you will take ownership of creating scripts and content for our stage events. You will be working closely with relevant stakeholders such as the Guests Department to deliver content for our stages, as well as the Head of Stage Experience for Production stage events. Attention to detail, and an innovative mindset are key to delivering fun and exciting stages!

As this is a new role please expect plenty of guidance to help you succeed. You’ll also receive support from the Head of Stage Experience and Directors. Along the way, you’ll make valuable connections and grow in your role.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Convention

  • Engage with relevant stakeholders such as the Guests department to determine their scripting and content needs for SMASH! stages.
  • Responsible for researching relevant information about the stage content to assist in writing a script
  • Create draft scripts and content alongside relevant stakeholders (i.e. agencies, stage managers, guest coordinators, MC coordinators, etc.)
  • Finalise scripting and content 1 month prior to convention, and delivered to all relevant stakeholders.

On the Day

  • Work alongside relevant stakeholders to ensure all content assets are delivered
  • Ensure last minute changes to content are universal across all assets, and all stakeholders are informed

Skills and experience

  • Strong understanding of SMASH!’s community wants and needs
  • Strong understanding of Japanese culture and subcultures
  • Strong creative writing skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with using Google Docs
  • High attention to detail
  • Team-oriented and collaborative approach to work
  • High proficiency in English

Availability

  • Contactable at least 3 days per week via Slack, email and phone.
  • Attendance at staff meetings and ad hoc workshops.
  • Available in person for convention setup day and the convention days.

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Japanese language proficiency N3 or above
  • Highly motivated and self-sufficient
  • Innovative mindset
