Cosplay Photowall Manager

The Cosplay Department is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of all cosplay-related programming at SMASH!. The department plays a key role in community engagement, creative expression, and attendee experience, overseeing a diverse range of activities that celebrate cosplay culture.

These activities include, but are not limited to:

  • The main cosplay competition
  • Cosplay catwalks and showcases
  • Interactive cosplay activities and workshops
  • Operation of the cosplay desk as a central point for information, registration, and support
  • General coordination of cosplay participants, judges, and volunteers

The Cosplay Photowall Manager helps make sure the photowalls and photo activation areas at SMASH! run smoothly and are fun, safe, and welcoming for everyone. This role is all about supporting attendees, managing queues and crowd flow, and helping volunteers work together to create a great photo experience.

The Cosplay Photowall Manager works under the guidance of the Cosplay Director and supports the volunteers assigned to photowall and photo activation areas.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Looking after the day-to-day running of assigned photowall and photo areas
  • Making sure photowalls are set up properly, kept tidy during the event, and packed down at the end
  • Helping manage queues and crowd flow so everyone gets a fair chance to enjoy the photowalls
  • Keeping an eye on safety and stepping in early if things get too crowded or chaotic
  • Giving friendly directions and answering attendee questions about the photowalls
  • Supporting and supervising volunteers in the area, making sure everyone knows what they’re doing and feels comfortable asking questions
  • Being the go-to person for any issues or questions in the photowall area
  • Letting the Cosplay Director if anything goes wrong or needs extra support
  • Working with other teams (like Operations/Rapid Response) if help is needed
  • Helping create a positive, inclusive, and welcoming space for all attendees

Essential:

  • Contactable on a regular basis via email and phone
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attend meetings, workshops and activities as required
  • Be available throughout the year for staff workshops, department meetings and volunteer training sessions
  • Available for convention day(s) in Sydney, Australia
  • Knowledge and passion in a wide range of cosplay related activities
  • Time management skills and have the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and follow the directions from upper management
  • Risk management skills
  • Ability to communicate with large numbers of attendees and contestants in a friendly and suitable manner

Desirable:

  • Previous volunteer or customer service experience
  • Experience in running events or workshops
