Attendee & Staff Wellbeing Director

The Attendee and Staff Wellbeing Director is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing strategies that promote physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing across all SMASH! events and staff. This role ensures that wellbeing is embedded into the culture and operations of the organisation or event, fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for everyone involved.

The Director will work collaboratively with DPC, Executives, External Mental Health agencies, and external partners to develop wellbeing programs, respond to emerging needs, and evaluate the impact of wellbeing initiatives.

Scope/Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a holistic wellbeing strategy tailored to attendees and staff.
  • Integrate wellbeing principles into event planning, staff onboarding, and daily operations.
  • Advocate for mental health awareness and inclusive practices across the organisation.
  • Ensure wellbeing infrastructure is in place (e.g., hydration stations, quiet rooms, accessibility services).
  • Provide training for staff on mental health first aid, trauma-informed care, and respectful communication.
  • Promote awareness campaigns around wellbeing, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Report on outcomes and recommend improvements to senior leadership.
  • Manage wellbeing-related risks, including burnout, fatigue, and psychological safety.

Essential Skills & Knowledge, Experiences, Qualifications

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and develop strategic initiatives
  • Experience designing and managing wellbeing or HR programs
  • Knowledge of emergency protocols and mental health crisis intervention
  • Ability to support diverse populations with sensitivity and respect
  • Good remote communication and work
  • Available for convention days in Australia

Desirable

  • Prior experience in event management or large-scale operations
  • Ability to interpret wellbeing data and translate into actionable insights
  • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations (for example WHS)
