World Cosplay Summit

The World Cosplay Summit Australian preliminary competition is back at SMASH! in 2026!

Partnering with SMASH! since 2014, World Cosplay Summit Australia has sent cosplayers to Japan to compete in the world’s largest cosplay festival, to battle it out to become number one. It is the Olympics of Cosplay televised around the world. Team Australia (AmenoKitarou (A.K. Wirru) and K Cosplay) became the global champions in 2019, and second (Taigakunn and i_artemis_i) in 2022.

What does it take to be number one in Australia?

  • A team of two cosplayers compete in a skit based competition. The costumes are handmade
  • The work must be a Japanese manga, anime, video game, or tokusatsu character
  • Stage performance judging time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds
  • Rank will be determined by the sum of the costume and stage performance judging

Winners of the Australian Preliminary competition will win a trip to Japan in 2027 to compete against 40+ countries to become number one in the world, and the honour of representing Australia on the world cosplay stage.
