Newsletter Editor
The Newsletter Editor is responsible for creating and scheduling regular monthly newsletters. This will include writing, editing, and proofreading content; coordinating with other teams to gather information; and managing the editorial calendar to meet deadlines. The role also involves strategic tasks like analysing performance data to improve audience engagement, selecting and arranging graphics, and developing engaging editorials.
The ideal candidate will be an all-rounder with a strong interest and understanding in Japanese pop culture and subcultures such as gaming, cosplay, J-idols, etc.
The Newsletter Editor is required to, but not limited to:
- Develop and pitch engaging editorials, cultivating strong relationships with local communities and brands where relevant
- Monitor local news and identify key stories to create and distribute regular monthly newsletter campaigns
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to curate special newsletters outside of the regular month as necessary (e.g. sponsored information or competitions)
- Proofread newsletter drafts and ensure the editorials are grammatically correct, spelling error-free, and that accurate information is communicated
- Conduct newsgathering across global and Australian news sources that are relevant to our event and Japanese pop culture trends and news
- Assist in managing and updating the website’s news section with breaking news or developing stories if required
- Support communications projects with research, copywriting, and editorial input
- Evaluate content performance using analytics to inform future strategies
- Work closely with relevant SMASH! Teams to ensure a unified message across all platforms is communicated
- Escalate problems to Campaign Manager or Marketing Director where necessary
Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Contactable regularly online via email and Slack, and over the phone
- Strong communication skills in English
- Attend meetings, workshops and activities as required
- Available for convention day(s) in Sydney, Australia
- Strong time-management skills, teamwork skills, creativity and research skills
- Attention to detail and copywriting skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Familiarity with anime, manga, and cosplay culture, including current and upcoming trends
- Knowledge or experience in marketing campaigns and implementation
- Knowledge of newsletters and news trends
Desirable Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or customer service experience
- Tertiary qualification in communications, marketing, commerce, public relations or similar
- Demonstrated ability to ideate and execute editorial campaigns or content creation
- Another language other than English, i.e. Chinese, Japanese, etc.
- Experience with MailChimp or other mailing platforms
