Crew Director
The SMASH Crew Director is responsible for ensuring all Crew staff and volunteers live the SMASH values and Code of Conduct and are best supported and positioned in carrying out their duties before (where relevant for staff) and over the convention weekend.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Uphold and model SMASH! values and objectives.
- Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the full range of Crew responsibilities, including ensuring that the Code of Conduct is kept updated and relevant for the current climate
- Manage and develop the Crew Coordinators to ensure that they are kept up to date on changes to the Volunteer Code of Conduct and SMASH Inc Constitution, including disciplinary measures, training, recruitment and Crew retention
- Develop, manage and implement engagement activities for Crew and staff team members
- Provide expert guidance, coaching, advice and support to the Management team on the full range of Crew activities including change management, performance management, engagement and other relevant subject areas to support the achievement of business objectives.
- Support or manage investigations, disciplinary and grievance matters in conjunction with relevant stakeholders, to provide advice and guidance on individual crew relations cases, ensuring that these are well managed and meet the requirements of organisational policies, best practice and relevant legislation.
- Support the planning and optimisation of Crew member assignments to all departments within SMASH! to ensure a successfully run convention.
- Develop and implement HR metrics that drive performance and deliver regular internal and external reporting to enable executive level decision making.
- Manage and support all Crew Coordinators with their respective areas over the convention period, ensure teams are taking regular breaks, and Code of Conduct policies are adhered to at all times.
The role is fully accountable for the quality and integrity of advice and decisions regarding people and culture policies and procedures, and ensures compliance with relevant legislative requirements. The role makes recommendations and contributes to Executive and Management on crew allocation and process, development of new approaches, policies, training and/or processes.
Decisions referred to the Executive Management include matters that have a significant organisational impact or issues outside of financial delegation.
Essential Skills & Knowledge, Experiences, Qualifications
- Proficiency in written English and a clear and friendly writing style
- Proficiency in spoken English
- Be available throughout the year for management meetings, department meetings and additional extracurricular activities relating to crew
- Available for crew workshops and crew training days, BBQ, set up day and all days of the convention
- Easily contactable via email& phone
- Exceptional organisational skills and administrative skills
- Excellent people management and coordination skills
- Strong ability to multitask, especially amongst competing department timelines
- Strong interpersonal and communicative skills
- Strong leadership skills, including but not limited to active listening, influencing and problem solving
- Highly motivated and self-sufficient
- Knowledgeable of the existing Work Health Safety policies and practices
- Professional disposition at all times
Desirable Skills & Knowledge, Experiences, Qualifications
- Currently studying or have studied Human Resources Management
- Has experience or currently working in the Human Resources department or relevant HR Business Areas
- Knowledge and/or interest in Japanese culture and popular cultural references
- Has previous experience managing a large number of people
- Ability to be aware of multiple events happening at the same time
- Previous volunteer experience in people management is desired, but not essential
- Interpersonal skills to positively build effective working relationships, drive engagement, motivate staff, and influence culture
- Willingness to positively design and implement change management processes in complex and sensitive circumstances
- Demonstrated experience in partnering with business/leadership teams to design, develop and implement HR strategies to meet business objectives.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing people strategies or initiatives that are aligned with business objectives
- Demonstrated experience in managing the full cycle of change or transformation projects.
- Demonstrated ability in coaching and skills transfer to business and managers on effective people management practices.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and deliver Training and Coaching to Crew teams and Crew Coordinators
