Assistant Creative Director
The Creative department is responsible for creating brand cohesion, digital designs and visual communication across all of SMASH!. As an Assistant Creative Director, you’ll report directly to the Creative Director and will be responsible for maintaining consistency in visual branding and developing comprehensive creative strategies for SMASH! aligning it with our partners and exhibitors. The role revolves around being a production-focused, people-first leader with the ability to scale, structure, and coordinate creative projects across departments.
The Assistant Creative Director is responsible for supporting the creative director and co-leading the Art & Design team, overseeing the Media & Production team, and developing comprehensive creative strategies, workflows, and efficiencies within the team.
Responsibilities include:
- Strategic Execution: Develop creative strategies aligned with key objectives.
- Team Leadership: Foster a collaborative, innovative work culture and mentor the team.
- Cross-Department & External Collaboration: Strengthen partnerships across teams and negotiate with external stakeholders and vendors to enhance creative capabilities.
- Project Oversight: Ensure high-quality content and animation projects resonate with the audience.
- Creative & Operational Support: Assist the Creative Director in enhancing team capabilities and workflow.
- Briefing & Communication: Translate stakeholder needs into clear creative briefs.
- Hiring & Resource Management: Support recruitment and provide accurate project time estimates.
- Deadline & Issue Management: Keep leadership informed of any risks affecting timelines.

Essential Skills & Knowledge, Experiences, Qualifications
- Creative Expertise: Strong portfolio showcasing leadership in photography, video, illustration, or animation projects.
- Production Knowledge: Deep understanding of illustration, graphics, animation, and media production, with a track record of delivering high-quality assets.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in at least two Adobe programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects).
- Organized & Data-Driven: Strong project tracking skills and ability to make data-informed creative decisions.
- Leadership & Communication: A compassionate, team-focused leader with excellent English communication skills.
- Availability & Collaboration: Responsive via email and Slack, and able to attend meetings and workshops as needed.
Desirable Skills & Knowledge, Experiences, Qualifications
- Creative & Technical Expertise: Experience in illustration, visual production, and basic prepress.
- Photography & Video: Knowledge of studio lighting, camera gear, photo retouching, and video editing.
- Digital & UX Design: Web design experience or an understanding of UX/UI principles.
- Industry Awareness: Passion for staying updated on creative trends and technologies.
- Collaboration & Service: Previous volunteer or customer service experience.
